Suno and Udio were the two best AI music generators, and for most of 2025 choosing between them was a genuine debate about vocal quality. That debate is over — not because one model won, but because Udio switched off downloads. Here is what changed, and which one you should actually use.
Suno vs Udio
Quick Verdict
Choose Suno if: you need music you can download, publish and use commercially — which is almost everyone.
Choose Udio if: you want to experiment with the best-sounding vocals and do not need to export anything.
Short version: use Suno. Udio may sound marginally better, but a music tool you cannot export from is not a music tool for most people.

Who Should Choose Suno?
Suno is the practical choice in 2026. The output quality is very good, the free tier gives you daily credits, and — critically — you can export what you make and use it.
For video creators, podcasters and anyone scoring content, that last point is the whole decision.
- You need to download finished tracks
- You want commercial usage rights
- You are scoring video, podcasts or ads
- You want a usable free tier
Who Should Choose Udio?
Udio arguably still edges Suno on vocal warmth and mix quality. If you are creating for the pleasure of it and happy to listen inside the platform, it remains a lovely tool.
Following its settlements with Universal and Warner, audio downloads, video exports and stem downloads are disabled. Udio says exports will return with the new licensed platform, but no date has been announced.
- You are experimenting rather than publishing
- Vocal quality matters more than anything
- You are happy streaming on-platform only
- You want to hear where AI music has got to
Our Verdict
On pure audio quality this once looked close, and plenty of listeners preferred Udio — but when we gave Udio the same lyrics and style brief as Suno in August 2026, it missed the brief with rushed vocals. The head-to-head had already become academic in October 2025 when Udio settled Universal Music Group’s copyright suit and disabled downloads — retroactively, including for paying subscribers who had already built libraries.
Udio’s direction may well be the better one for musicians. Artists opting in and being paid for both training and output is a genuine step forward, and the licensed platform arriving in 2026 could be the most ethically solid product in the category.
But if you need a file, Suno is the only one of the two that gives you one. Use Suno today, and revisit Udio when exports return.

How We Compared Suno and Udio
Both tools went through our full review process, and then something rarer: the same lyrics and style brief, tested on both. Suno delivered the track and let us keep it (8/10); Udio missed the style brief with rushed vocals and offered no way to download the result (4/10). The full three-way version of that test, with recordings you can hear, is in our Suno vs Udio vs Nafy AI comparison.
Suno vs Udio Pricing in 2026
Both start their paid plans at $10/month, which makes the pricing decision entirely about what you get for it. Suno’s free tier gives 50 credits a day — roughly six songs, for non-commercial use — and paid plans unlock downloads and commercial rights. Udio’s credits do not roll over month to month, and since downloads were disabled you are paying for music that stays inside Udio. Figures checked September 2026.
Suno vs Udio: Frequently Asked Questions
Is Suno or Udio better in 2026?
Suno, and it is not close: 8/10 against 4/10 in our testing. Udio’s model once matched Suno on quality, but it missed our same-lyrics style brief on retest — and either way you cannot download what it makes.
Is Udio still worth paying for?
Not right now. Downloads, exports and stems were disabled after Udio’s October 2025 label settlement — retroactively, including for paying subscribers — and our August 2026 test found the output missing the requested style. We will retest if exports return.
Can you use Suno for free?
Yes — 50 credits refresh daily, enough for roughly six songs a day, for personal use. Downloading tracks and commercial use need a paid plan, from $10/month.
