The best Make.com alternative depends on what is pushing you away from Make. If it is the learning curve, Zapier (our 9/10) is the easiest automation tool to get working and has 9,000+ integrations, from USD $19.99 a month billed annually. If it is the credit-based bill at scale, n8n (8/10) self-hosts for free with unlimited executions, and Activepieces (8.5/10) is open source with a free tier of 100 credits a day. We have signed up for and tested all four; here is how they compare in September 2026.

Make.com Alternatives Compared

All four tools do the same basic job: something happens in one app, and a chain of actions runs in others. The differences that matter are how you pay (per action, per run, or nothing if you host it yourself), how technical you need to be, and how many apps connect without workarounds. Prices below are what each vendor publishes; every one of them bills differently, so the cheapest tool on paper is not always cheapest for your workflow.

Paid from USD $12/month (Core, 10,000 credits) USD $19.99/month billed annually (Professional, 750 tasks) €20/month billed annually (Starter, 2,500 executions) USD $20/month (Plus, 10,000 credits)

Best for Visual, complex multi-step automations Beginners and the widest app coverage Technical teams wanting control and data ownership Open-source Zapier-style builder with AI agents

Make.com itself: we scored it 8.5/10 in our Make.com review. The visual canvas is the reason people stay, and the credit bill at volume is the reason people look elsewhere. Make now calls its unit of pricing a credit rather than an operation, but it works the same way: every module action in a scenario consumes one.

Is Zapier a Good Make.com Alternative?

Yes, if you want the easiest possible start and the widest app coverage. Zapier scored 9/10 in our testing for exactly those two things: it is the automation tool most likely to work on your first attempt, and 9,000+ integrations means the obscure app your business relies on is probably already there. The trade is money. Zapier bills per task, meaning every action step in a Zap counts, so a five-step Zap that fires 2,000 times a month is 10,000 tasks. The free plan is 100 tasks a month with two-step Zaps; Professional starts at USD $19.99 a month billed annually for 750 tasks.

Choose Zapier over Make if you are not technical, you value getting something live today over building something elegant, or you need an integration Make does not have. Our Zapier vs Make.com comparison goes into the detail.

Is n8n a Good Make.com Alternative?

Yes, for technical teams, and it is the closest like-for-like replacement. n8n is a node-based canvas in the same spirit as Make, scored 8/10 in our review, and has two things Make does not: a free self-hosted Community edition with no execution limits, and pricing by execution rather than by step. One workflow run is one execution however many nodes it touches, so complex workflows cost the same as simple ones. n8n Cloud starts at €20 a month billed annually for 2,500 executions, with a free trial and no card needed.

The catch is that self-hosting is real work: you need a server (a basic VPS is a few euros a month), you maintain it, and the interface assumes you are comfortable with JSON and expressions. If you want a managed tool that just works, Make is easier. Our Make.com vs n8n comparison covers when each wins.

Is Activepieces a Good Make.com Alternative?

Yes, with a caveat about its pricing. Activepieces is an open-source automation builder with 760+ integrations, built-in AI agents and MCP support, and you can self-host it for nothing. We scored it 8.5/10, but that score was given when Activepieces charged a flat USD $5 per active flow with unlimited runs, a model that was its biggest advantage over Make and Zapier. In September 2026 the vendor moved to credits: Free is 100 credits a day with unlimited flows, Plus is USD $20 a month for 10,000 credits, and Team is USD $200 a month for 50,000. We are retesting under the new model and will update our Activepieces review and this page when we have.

Choose Activepieces over Make if being open source matters to you, you want a Zapier-style linear builder rather than a canvas, or you want to self-host without n8n’s learning curve.

Which Make.com Alternative Should You Pick?

  • You find Make too complicated: Zapier. Easiest start, most apps, pay per task.
  • Make’s credit bill is too high and you have someone technical: n8n, self-hosted. Free, unlimited executions, your data stays on your server.
  • You want open source without running a server: Activepieces Cloud, from USD $20 a month, or its free tier if 100 credits a day covers you.
  • You mostly like Make and just want it cheaper: stay, and check whether annual billing (Make says 15% or more off) and trimming unnecessary modules solves it. None of the alternatives has Make’s canvas.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best free alternative to Make.com?

Self-hosted n8n. The Community edition is free with unlimited workflows and executions on your own server. If you do not want to run a server, Activepieces’ free tier (100 credits a day, unlimited flows) and Zapier’s free plan (100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps) are the managed options.

Is Zapier cheaper than Make.com?

Not usually at volume. Zapier’s Professional plan starts at USD $19.99 a month billed annually for 750 tasks, while Make’s Core plan is USD $12 a month for 10,000 credits. Both count every action step, so compare the number of steps your workflows run, not the headline price.

Is n8n better than Make.com?

For technical teams, yes: n8n scored 8/10 to Make’s 8.5/10 in our tests, but it self-hosts for free, prices per execution rather than per step, and handles workflows Make cannot. For non-developers, Make is the better daily driver because the managed experience is smoother.

Which Make.com alternative has the most integrations?

Zapier, with 9,000+ apps. Make lists 3,000+, Activepieces 760+, and n8n relies on community nodes plus generic HTTP and code nodes that can reach any API with some setup.
