Gemini 4 Argon is Google’s new frontier AI model, and since 13 October 2026 it has been available to the public — but not to free Gemini users. Gemini 4 Argon is in the Gemini app and AI Mode in Search for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, and in Google AI Studio for developers on a paid API key. Here is what Gemini 4 Argon is, who can use it, what it costs in the UK, and which of Google’s claims I will be testing.
What Is Gemini 4 Argon?
Gemini 4 Argon is the first model in Google’s Gemini 4 family. Google describes Gemini 4 Argon as built for “deep work” on complex, multi-step tasks in coding, finance, legal, cybersecurity and science. Google gave a restricted group of cybersecurity partners early access from 30 September, then opened Gemini 4 Argon to everyone else on 13 October.
Who Can Use Gemini 4 Argon?
| Plan | UK price | Gemini 4 Argon? |
|---|---|---|
| Free Gemini | £0 | No |
| Google AI Plus | £4.49/month | No |
| Google AI Pro | £18.99/month | Yes — Gemini app and AI Mode in Search |
| Google AI Ultra | £79.99/month (5x Pro usage) or £189.99/month (20x) | Yes — higher limits, plus Google Antigravity and AI Studio |
| Gemini API (paid tier) | $2 per million input tokens, $10 per million output tokens until 30 November 2026; then $4 and $20 | Yes — in AI Studio and the Gemini platform |
For most people reading this, the cheapest way to use Gemini 4 Argon is Google AI Pro at £18.99 a month. Developers should note the API price is introductory: Google’s own footnote says it doubles after 30 November 2026.
What Does Google Claim Gemini 4 Argon Can Do?
All of the following are Google’s own claims from its launch announcement. I have not verified them yet.
- Better writing — Google says Gemini 4 Argon answers more directly with less hedging, repeats itself less and “skips clichés”, and follows style instructions better than any previous Gemini model
- Top of a benchmark — Google says Gemini 4 Argon ranks first on the Vals Index, which tests models on finance, coding, legal and tax work
- Longer jobs — through the API, Gemini 4 Argon handles a combined 1 million tokens of input and output, for long, multi-step tasks
- Building apps by describing them — in Google AI Studio, Google is pitching Gemini 4 Argon for “vibe coding”: describe a web app, data tool or 3D game and let the model handle the build
- Safer agents — Google says Gemini 4 Argon is better at resisting hidden malicious instructions on web pages and in emails, and pauses for confirmation before irreversible steps
What Does Gemini 4 Argon Mean for Everyday Users?
If you use the free version of Gemini, nothing changes today — Gemini 4 Argon is a paid-plan model, just as OpenAI kept GPT-6 Astra off ChatGPT’s free plan. If you already pay for Google AI Pro, you should find Gemini 4 Argon in the Gemini app now. And if you have been comparing assistants, the writing claims are the ones worth watching: cliché-heavy, over-hedged answers are a common complaint about every chatbot, including ChatGPT and Claude.
The “build an app by describing it” pitch puts Gemini 4 Argon in the same territory as the no-code app builders I have reviewed, such as Base44, Replit and Hostinger Horizons — with the difference that AI Studio is aimed at developers and needs a paid API key or an Ultra plan.
What I’ll Test
- Whether Gemini 4 Argon’s writing really is more direct and less clichéd than ChatGPT and Claude on the same everyday prompts
- How far a non-developer gets building a simple app by description, compared with Base44 and Hostinger Horizons
- Whether Google AI Pro’s Gemini 4 Argon limits are enough for normal daily use
